Ok, so I have had yahoo since 2005, and now when I go to the site it barely works. I use Jaws 11.0 and it still acts up. Any suggestions of how I can switch my yahoo mail to another program, or how I can read it from another site. I really didn't want to switch my email b.c so many people know that email address.

If you pay the 20 a year you can use Yahoo with Outlook, or other email clients. Pop Peeper is a free one that Thunder bird as well, but you have to have a paid Yahoo mail account to make it all sync.

yeah been having issues with it as well been thinking of just forwarding all my yahoo mail automatically to like a gmail address of the same name. i believe its doable for free with yahoo. Yeah for the same reason i don't want to give it up and that way it shouldn't cost and i can have easy access to my mail. I have also found that disabling automatic page updates help the site function a little better.

Disabling page updates works, but the application mode is hard to get rid of.

yeha but you can not forward your email with a free account...and why should we have to pay b.c they upgraded their applications to aria...any other suggestions

No you'll pay or change. Paid accounts come with features free once don't, so it's their way of offering something worth paying for I suppose.

How To Get Yahoo Mail To Work With Email Clients such as Thunderbird, Outlook, etc

You can now get yahoo to be free for pop as well. Note: this is hit or miss. Also, this works with Internet Explorer 7, for the setup, not Firefox. Let me know if the instructions aren't clear enough.
To Enable Pop3 and SMTP for Yahoo Email:
sign into your yahoo account
go to your yahoo sign in name
enter your password
go to the edit for member information
switch the yahoo us, to yahoo asia, when it comes to what content you want
to display, the content type is a Jaws accessible link
This does nothing for the language, its still in english

sign out, then sign back in
agree with the tos, this has to be done only once
go to mail options, this may or may not be a directly clickable Jaws link
forwarding and pop should now be available.

After you make the changes, for Jaws with Internet Explorer, you're gonna have to use your Jaws cursor to navagate allot of the site.

note: The site will not work under Firefox after you change the content from Yahoo US to Yahoo Asia.
note: If you create a new yahoo account, this option may not be available, even if you follow the directions. I'm unsure when yahoo stopped allowing people to set their pop and smtp servers with the work around detailed above.

The Email servers for the new yahoo setup are as follows:
Pop3 Server with Port
pop.mail.yahoo.com, Port 995
SSL, Yes
User Name, Your complete Yahoo EMail Address

SMTP Server With Port
smtp.mail.yahoo.com, Port 465
SSL, Yes
User Name, Your complete Yahoo EMail Address

will this work if I have IE 8

Post 9 by ¤§¤spike¤§¤ (This site is so "educational") on Saturday, 09-Jan-2010 19:00:46

to Starcannon20,

It should. Though to what degree, as in what options will be the same, and will be different, I don't know. I've got IE7 on this machine. So that's what I used to write the guide with. Let me know if you run into any issues, or if it doesn't work for you.

I had the exact same problem with Yahoo a couple months ago. So I switched to GMail. If you create a new account on there you'll find an import feature in account settings, you may have to set it to "standard view" to find the import tab. But this feature will forward everything from your old account, so you don't have to forward everything manually. It brings over contacts too. I had 3 Yahoo accounts with thousands of messages, it was a fricking Godsend...
And it'll also send a notification about your new address to everyone in your contact list. Hope this helps.

thankyou, i think thats what i will have to do

Post 12 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Friday, 15-Jan-2010 21:39:32

You can also use m.yahoo.com, which is the mobile site. I'm not sure what features are there because I don't use Yahoo, but my boyfriend was asking me if I knew of a way to get around this problem and I just randomly thought of a mobile site like Facebook has. He says it works fine but I think he said you can't send attachments with it.

ok well i am trying to set up gmail, but they're asking for a mobile number and i do not have one, what do I do?

Post 14 by Little Smoky (Veteran Zoner) on Monday, 18-Jan-2010 8:11:45

To the original poster. The reason why you've been having some issues is because Yahoo is converting its classic e-mail layout to its new layout. Even my sighted friends told me that they don't like the new layout, and to change it back to the classic layout is not so obvious. Anyway, to set the layout back to the classic view, log into your e-mail account then click mail options. Once you do that, use your JAWS cursor to read line by line, from the top, and look for something like "classic view" or "classic layout". Left mouse click on this icon and your account should be back to the original layout. Hope this helps!

Post 15 by forereel (Just posting.) on Tuesday, 19-Jan-2010 1:56:24

Layout is not the issue it is sending email to a mail client. The work around is pretty slick changing your country, because Yahoo probably is slow gettiing to every one. They will. Now the cost is only about $20 a year, so not much to not switch.

Post 16 by Little Smoky (Veteran Zoner) on Tuesday, 19-Jan-2010 3:15:51

To poster 15. If you read the original post, I don't think that the poster was initially wanting to send yahoo mail to a mail client. All he or she said was that the yahoo mail was no longer working properly. I gather that the poster's been using the yahoo mail as web based. In that case, yes, it would be the layout that would be the issue.

Post 17 by Starcannon20 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Tuesday, 19-Jan-2010 20:52:10

yeah the main issue is the layout...seems they have upgraded to aria which doesn't quite work well with jaws yet but i will try to see if i can find classic view in mail options...but if not, is there a way to forward mail somewhere else without having yahoo mail plus.

Post 18 by forereel (Just posting.) on Wednesday, 20-Jan-2010 0:04:37

But the question was asked just like the poster before me if mail could be forwarded to an email client. So that is why I have posted as I did.

Post 19 by monkeypusher69 (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Wednesday, 20-Jan-2010 5:07:58

changing to classic mail doesn't fix this issue has i have been using yahoo in the classic view forever now

Post 20 by Little Smoky (Veteran Zoner) on Wednesday, 20-Jan-2010 23:42:54

The question was asked because the original poster thought that he or she no longer can access the yahoo mail. If I'm not mistaken, the poster would still like to use the yahoo mail via web base. If that task could be easily achieved by switching the layout back to the yahoo mail classic, why go through all the trouble of setting up a mail program and paying yahoo twenty bucks a year? So, let's put this question to the origial poster, do you want to get a mail client program or do you want to be able to use yahoo mail the way you have been using? Which is it?

By the way, to the previous poster, if you've been using the yahoo classic forever, of course there is no problem. I don't know what your point is.

Post 21 by Starcannon20 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Thursday, 21-Jan-2010 16:19:11

oh I answered that already, I would like to keep the yahoo mail if at all posible, but if not, than I would like to switch to a mail client or forward yahoo mail to another web based email...also i tried to get a gmail account, but i do not have a cell phone right now, anyone know what I can do about that?

Post 22 by Mlynwei (Last word? Gimmie the first!) on Thursday, 21-Jan-2010 17:53:22

You shouldn't need a mobile number to set up a Gmail account. Will it not let you go anywhere unless the cell number edit field has something in it? What's happening?

Post 23 by Starcannon20 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Thursday, 21-Jan-2010 20:47:15

I must agree with post 19, I have just went in and tried to put my yahoo mial in the classic view only to find out that I had that all along...that doesn't resolve the issue...and as for gmail, they are saying that to verify if I am a real person they have to send a code to my cell phone to verify my account...and again i do not have a c phone right now

Post 24 by Starcannon20 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Friday, 22-Jan-2010 18:49:43

it's all good now, I have the gmail account and have imported all my mail from yahoo

Post 25 by Little Smoky (Veteran Zoner) on Saturday, 23-Jan-2010 9:22:34

I agree with post 22, you don't need to have a cell number. If I'm guessing correctly, you're at the security setup page. If you arrow down pass that mobile number entry, it'll ask you for the secret questions and answers. Type that in and you should be good to go. Not that it matters now if you have gmail.

Post 26 by Mlynwei (Last word? Gimmie the first!) on Saturday, 23-Jan-2010 22:56:04

Ah. Gmail did do that to me at one point, but it wasn't when I was setting up the account. I had to get someone at work to read the stupid text message. But it's only happened once in the couple years I've been with them, and it was after setting up 2 more accounts. Maybe that glitched something...
Glad all's well on your end.

Post 27 by Starcannon20 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Saturday, 23-Jan-2010 23:03:59

well no, it did that for my husband as well, but he had a phone that received text messages at the time

Post 28 by lights_rage (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 24-Jan-2010 1:35:28

Is there a way to do the import thing with gmail? if you have had it for a couple years. i am thinking of doing that for my yahoo since i barely check it. I also use hotmail and that would help emencely so i dont keep getting doubles when i check my email. it sometimes sends doubles because i currently have it forward to my isp email. I would just like to start using one email address. if gmail would let me import everything that would be great.

Post 29 by Starcannon20 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Sunday, 24-Jan-2010 11:01:20

yes that is what I did,
